We offer a guide for beginners of basketball betting. We talked about how to start betting, strategies, more profitable bets and more.
The 2018/2019 season of the National Basketball Association (NBA) is approaching and many, including myself, are impatient for it to begin. It is a new opportunity to see the best of the planet on the little board and an appetizing occasion for those who want to start in the world of sports betting; So more than one must be wondering, for example: How to bet on a basketball game? What strategy to follow? What markets are there? Where can they get more profitability?
We have already commented in previous articles that studying is the basis of everything. We cannot venture into something we do not know as much as we like basketball or the betting world. Without solid knowledge in both fields, we will lose money.
If you are a rookie and want to start playing in basketball one of the houses that offers more and better options is, for example, William Hill. There you will have a wide range of possibilities that are sure to adapt to the strategy you decide to follow. In practice, it is as simple as reviewing the market menu, selecting the option we like the most, indicating the amount to play in the box and placing the bet; But the reality is that there must be a lot of study before making that decision.
We will try to answer the questions we initially asked:
How to bet on a basketball game?
We must choose the market with which we feel most comfortable. For a beginner, the simplest is to bet on the winner of the game and then with the study of the markets, in addition to all the information that is collected, you can go into others until you get those that fit your profile as a bettor and the strategy That you like.
What markets are there for betting on basketball?
The answer is: Many! But there are three that are basic and common to most sports:
The market of the winner of the match, where as the name implies, we must guess who takes the victory.
The handicap of the match, where the favorite team awards a number of points to the other in order to make the bet more even and therefore improve the odds.
The other basic market is that of total match points (Over / Under), here the bookmakers place a line of points and we must hit if the final score of the match, between both teams, will be above or below that line. The rest of the markets are derived from these, where it is limited by quarters, halves, player, team, or instead of talking about points they are made in some other statistics of the game such as bounces, assists , thefts or blockages.
What strategy to follow?
This will depend on the profile of each player. There will be those who like to go through strategies based on numbers and statistics and who prefer to analyze each game, looking for weaknesses and strengths before making a decision; the fundamental thing, in both cases, is to look for value in the plays, with bets that in our opinion yield more long-term dividends than the betting houses estimate.
Where can they get more profitability?
The answer to this question also depends on each player, there is no magic strategy that guarantees long-term benefits, the only thing that can give us performance over time is study and perseverance. Personally, I am a fan and a student of basketball in general and the NBA in particular, last season I used two strategies that worked quite well for me and I will share them with you.
Assuming this article is for people who want to start betting on basketball, my strategies are quite simple and both are designed for the winner’s market.
In my opinion, when in basketball there is a very marked difference between two teams, it is easier for the logical result than in other sports such as football or baseball. In this sense, my first strategy is to always bet on the team that I consider superior. It doesn’t matter if the bet has value or not, I usually go to the team that for me is the strongest. The second is similar, with the variant that I filter and I only make the bets that I consider have value.
I tell you how I was last season. With the first strategy I obtained a higher percentage of successes, a positive yield and a very good amount of profit units; With the second I got a lower percentage of success but a better yield, greater than 5%, and an acceptable amount of profit units.
In the first, obviously, the volume of bets is greater since the moves are not filtered, this makes the percentage of successes also higher because in very uneven games, I play the favorite even when the odds are very low (bet without value), the high volume made the number of units also greater. However, the second method is more efficient, less bets and better yield, adjusting the stake can increase the number of units of profit.
